Bontebok — size comparison — facts and sources

The Cape bontebok is a subspecies associated with South Africa's Cape region. Its historical range included the Bredasdorp and Mossel Bay areas. Suitable habitat consists of coastal fynbos plains with grass, water and some shrub cover.

Modern localities also include reserves and private conservation areas. It feeds mainly on grasses. It is active by day, especially morning and afternoon, resting during warmer hours.

Where space permits, groups move between favourable feeding places. Access to good grass strongly affects habitat use. It forms small groups of changing composition, and adult males defend access to females. A calf begins following its mother soon after birth.
