Bonobo — size comparison — facts and sources

The bonobo is a close relative of the chimpanzee. Relationships between females, cooperation and grooming play a prominent role in its communities. It inhabits humid forests of the Congo Basin, walks on its knuckles on the ground, climbs and occasionally moves on two legs.

Fruit and other plant foods form most of its diet, supplemented by invertebrates. Changing subgroup membership combines strong social ties with flexible movement through the forest. The face and hands are bare, and the hair on the head often forms a distinctive parting. Mutual grooming helps ease social tensions.
