Boa constrictor — size comparison — facts and sources
Boa constrictor is a South American constricting snake inhabiting forests, scrub and other tropical habitats. Darker patches cover a paler background, and the muscular body firmly holds prey.
It seizes prey with its mouth and subdues it with body coils. Usually an ambush hunter, it can also search actively. Small mammals and birds are its food.
Females give birth to live young. Earlier, broader classifications of Boa constrictor also included populations now recognised as separate species.
Typowy zakres 2–3 m z ADW; nie obejmuje odrębnych karłowatych populacji ani rekordu powyżej 4 m. W obu ujęciach tułów pozostaje w pozycji bocznej, z lekkimi wygięciami. W drugim ujęciu tylko końcowy odcinek szyi i głowa są zwrócone do patrzącego. Skalę obu wersji ustalono z tej samej długości ciała i odpowiadającego sobie odcinka tułowia.
