Blue marlin — size comparison — facts and sources

The blue marlin is a powerful predator of warm oceans. It has a streamlined body, a strong tail and an upper jaw elongated into a bill with an almost round cross-section. It lives mainly in upper water layers, often far offshore.

It hunts pelagic fish, including tuna and mackerel, and squid. A fast swimmer, it usually travels alone. While seeking food it covers large distances, using places where currents and water conditions concentrate prey.
