Philantomba monticola
The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The blue duiker inhabits varied African forest habitats, from wet stands to riverside thickets. It needs vegetation providing cover near the ground. When threatened it may freeze, then abruptly vanish into undergrowth. An alarm whistle warns nearby individuals.
It gathers fruit, leaves, buds and young shoots; its menu may also contain animal food. Activity timing depends on population and conditions; feeding at night, dawn and dusk has been observed.
Blue duikers may live in bonded pairs. They mark space with gland secretions and dung and use repeated routes. Young remain with their parents for a time. Quiet calls help the female and offspring maintain contact in dense vegetation.
