The blesbok (Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi) is a South African antelope subspecies associated with open grasslands. It is recognised by a pale facial blaze, a brown coat and ridged horns. It is closely related to the Cape bontebok, but the two forms differ in history and appearance.
It feeds mainly on grasses. It selects dry grasslands and savannas where low vegetation provides food and good visibility. Seasonal pasture conditions influence feeding-site choice and the animals' distribution across the landscape.
It lives in herds. On open plains it can detect predators early and respond with other group members. During breeding males defend the space they use.
