Blainville’s beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Blainville’s beaked whale occurs in warm and temperate waters of many oceans, particularly deep waters near continental slopes and submarine canyons. It has an elongated beak; mature males have a characteristic lower-jaw outline with projecting teeth.

It hunts fish and squid on long, deep dives, some lasting over fifty minutes. Surfacing alone or in small groups, usually briefly, makes observation and identification among beaked whales difficult.
