Black marlin — size comparison — facts and sources

The black marlin is a fast predator of the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific. It has an elongated bill, powerful tail and rigid pectoral fins that do not fold against its sides as in some other billfishes.

It hunts tuna, other pelagic fish and squid. Usually travelling alone, it crosses warm waters seeking prey. A streamlined body and powerful tail propulsion enable it to overtake actively swimming fish.
