The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The black-footed cat occurs in southern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It selects open areas with grasses and sparse shrubs. By day it rests under cover, finding retreats in abandoned burrows and termite-built structures among other places.
At night it travels through its area, searching for small mammals and birds. It can stalk prey and wait beside its hiding place.
Adults usually live alone. They scent-mark the boundaries of used areas, and male ranges may encompass those of several females. The mother rears young in a retreat. She brings food and later also live prey, allowing kittens to practise hunting skills before independent life.
