Bigeye sixgill shark — size comparison — facts and sources

The bigeye sixgill shark lives on continental shelves and slopes and around Indo-Pacific islands. It may occur nearer the surface but is usually associated with deeper water. A slender body, large eyes and six gill slits help identify it.

It eats small and medium-sized bony fish, sometimes also crustaceans. Young develop inside the female. Bycatch is one way people encounter this less frequently observed shark.
