The Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia), or aoudad, is a bovid of dry mountains and desert landscapes in North Africa. It inhabits rocky slopes and cliffs. Horns and long hair on the neck, chest and forelegs distinguish it, particularly abundant in adult males.
It eats grasses, herbs, leaves and lichens. Agile movement over steep terrain allows access to sparse vegetation between rocks. It usually lives in small family groups.
