Australian sea lion — size comparison — facts and sources
The Australian sea lion occurs only around Australia. Breeding colonies occupy islands and remote shores of Western and South Australia. This stocky eared seal shows considerable size differences, with males much larger than females.
It dives for fish, squid and octopuses. Females return to pups between feeding trips. Breeding lacks the annual rhythm typical of many other eared seals: birth dates shift and differ between colonies, one of the species' most distinctive characteristics.
