Asian small-clawed otter — size comparison — facts and sources

The Asian small-clawed otter inhabits wetlands and coastal habitats of South and Southeast Asia. It uses sandy and muddy shores where it finds food. It travels in water and on land, and regularly visited places may bear slide marks in mud.

It uses mainly its front paws to find food. It probes sand and mud with them, catching crabs, bivalves and other invertebrates. Incomplete webbing between the toes favours food manipulation. Powerful teeth help break up hard prey coverings, and shell-opening methods may vary.

It lives in family groups and communicates frequently by calls. Play can be seen both along the shore and in water.
