Arnoux’s beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Arnoux’s beaked whale inhabits deep, cold Southern Hemisphere waters, including around the Antarctic shelf. It resembles the North Pacific Baird’s beaked whale but is a distinct species with a different range.

It lives in groups and makes long feeding dives. Squid occur in its diet; the contribution of other bottom-dwelling animals is less certain. Rare surface observations do not yet permit a detailed account of its full activity pattern.
