Argus monitor — size comparison — facts and sources

The Argus monitor is a large lizard with long legs, a laterally compressed tail and small pale markings on its darker back. In northern Australian individuals, dark and pale spots form transverse rows, and narrow dark bands mark the end of the tail.

It forages on the ground, including on floodplains and around bodies of water, and eats available invertebrates and small vertebrates. It digs with strong claws. In northern Australia, populations have declined following the arrival of invasive cane toads.

Wysokość postawy wynika z ilustracji, a skalę przodu dopasowano według wysokości oczu nad podłożem.
