Crested anole — size comparison — facts and sources

The crested anole (Anolis cristatellus) originates from Puerto Rico and nearby islands. It inhabits sunny trunks, forest margins and built-up areas. A small crest is particularly visible in males.

Toe pads allow changes in hunting-perch height, while a long tail balances movement between supports and vegetation. By day it watches from trunks or posts. Males signal territorial occupancy by bobbing their heads and extending a throat fan.

It eats insects, small vertebrates and fruit. Night resting sites are on plants. Females lay eggs in sheltered places.
