Andrews’ beaked whale — size comparison — facts and sources

Andrews' beaked whale, Mesoplodon bowdoini, inhabits deep, cool waters of the Southern Hemisphere. It is among the poorly known beaked whales. The first description was based on material from New Zealand, and museum specimens and stranded animals remain important sources of knowledge about the species.

It is thought to feed during deep dives, eating fish and squid. Live sightings are few, so its precise feeding rhythms and group organisation remain poorly documented. The small number of surface encounters alone cannot establish population size.
