The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The alpaca is a domesticated South American camelid closely related to the vicuña. It has a compact body, short muzzle and abundant fleece in many colours and shades. Originating in Andean pastoral life, it now also lives on farms outside South America.
It chiefly eats grasses and other herbs, grazing slopes and valleys on mountain pastures. Dense fleece protects against cold. A female usually bears one youngster after a pregnancy of around eleven and a half months.
Alpacas live in herds and respond attentively to companions. They communicate with soft humming sounds and positions of the ears, tail and neck. Short, repeated alarm calls signal danger. Spitting may express displeasure towards another alpaca.
