Mantled howler — size comparison — facts and sources

The mantled howler has dark hair with paler hairs along its flanks. It inhabits forests of Central America and northwestern South America. Loud calls advertise a group’s presence, while much of the day is spent resting.

A prehensile tail stabilises resting and feeding positions. Young leaves, flowers and fruit provide food; digestion of plant material is associated with long resting periods. Mothers carry young, which gradually explore independently and sample food.
