The African forest buffalo (Syncerus caffer nanus) is a small form of African buffalo from humid Central and West African forests. Reddish or red-brown coats and a less massive body distinguish it from the Cape buffalo. Horn shape and arrangement also differ.
It inhabits equatorial forests, clearings and swampy ground. It eats grasses, leaves, young shoots and wetland plants. Clearings are important feeding sites, while surrounding forest provides cover and travel routes.
It lives in smaller groups than savanna buffalo. Its compact build helps it pass through dense undergrowth.
Na wspólnej planszy używamy 105 cm w barku. Animal Diversity Web podaje około 105 cm dla formy leśnej; rogi i wysoko noszona głowa są wyłączone.
