The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The White Swiss Shepherd Dog has upright ears, an elongated head and a slightly rectangular, muscular body. Dark eyes and nose contrast with the pale coat. Hair may be shorter or long, always with underfur; longer hair forms a ruff and fluffy tail. Its free, enduring trot retains lightness and agility.
White shepherds descend from German Shepherd breeding. Separate lines survived in places including the United States and Canada. Imports to Switzerland began in the early 1970s, developing into a distinct breeding programme. An important ancestor was the American male Lobo. From 1991 dogs entered the Swiss studbook as a new breed, later internationally recognised.
It is usually friendly, attentive and eager to learn. It becomes deeply engaged with its owner, quickly remembers signals and enjoys shared tasks. It may be sensitive to the atmosphere and initially distant with newcomers. Affection is often exuberant among familiar people. Walks and games combining movement with thought reveal liveliness and interest in activity.
