The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi has a long, low body, short strong legs and a foxlike muzzle. Large upright ears emphasise its alert expression. Its dense coat may be red, sable or black and tan, usually with white markings. Both naturally short and long tails occur. Movement is free, and its agile build allows quick changes of direction.
The Pembroke descends from Welsh farm dogs that helped move cattle, among other duties. Short stature made working close to large animals’ legs easier. It shares some regional history with the Cardigan, but modern breeding separated them into two breeds with individual standards. Popularity beyond farms increased with the growth of companion-dog breeding.
Pembrokes are usually bold, outgoing and attentive to human behaviour. They readily engage in play, quickly notice events and often announce them vocally. Movement may prompt attempts to direct others, for example by running across their path. They learn readily but also have ideas of their own and may persistently seek involvement in daily activities.
