The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is low-standing, with a long body, strong feet and large rounded ears. Its bushy tail resembles a fox’s brush. Compared with the Pembroke it is more heavily built and has more varied colours, including red, brindle and merle. It moves efficiently and turns quickly.
It comes from Wales, where it was a farm dog used chiefly for moving cattle. Working close to large animals required courage, agility and responses without constant commands. Cardigans and Pembrokes were once grouped together as Welsh corgis but became established as separate breeds.
Usually observant of people and quick to learn household routines, it enjoys cooperation but can insist on its own ideas. Unfamiliar sounds and visitors often prompt barking. Initially reserved with new people, it can be relaxed, affectionate and playful with its household.
