The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The John Dory has a deep, strongly flattened body with a large dark flank spot. Long fin spines project above its back. It lives above seabeds in the eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and western Pacific.
It eats chiefly schooling fish, supplemented by cephalopods and crustaceans. During a strike it protrudes its large mouth, abruptly reducing the distance to prey. Lateral flattening makes its outline very narrow from the front.
Długość całkowita (TL): od końca pyska do końca płetwy ogonowej. Punkt równy źródłowej długości zwykle spotykanej, nie średnia populacji. Widoki są ilustracjami o przybliżonych proporcjach.
