The tiger reef-eel has a distinctive very long body with large brown spots on a pale background. It occurs in the Indo-Pacific, using bottom shelters and rocky crevices.
It is a predator. In sheltered surroundings it moves by undulating the entire body; pectoral fins are absent. Its secretive life means often only a small portion can be seen projecting from shelter.
