The tentacled flathead inhabits coastal waters of the western Indian Ocean. It has a long, flattened head with high-set eyes. Brown patches and skin projections break up its outline against the bottom.

It hunts other fish, usually waiting in cover. Eye position allows it to watch the water above the substrate while the rest of its body remains camouflaged. A broad mouth catches prey rapidly at short range.
