The coho salmon is a North Pacific salmon. At sea it has silvery sides, a metallic blue back and dark spots on the back and upper tail lobe. It eats fish and invertebrates.
It returns to rivers to spawn. Males become more intensely coloured and their jaws change shape. Eggs develop among riverbed stones. Young initially develop in fresh water, while the migratory form later grows at sea.
