The Mediterranean moray inhabits rocky eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. It hides its long body in crevices, often leaving only the head exposed. Mottled colouring blends with dark, irregular surroundings.
It catches fish, crabs and squid. Strong jaws hold prey, while undulating body movements permit manoeuvring between rocks. Like other morays, it lacks pectoral fins.
