Pumpkinseed — size comparison — facts and sources
The pumpkinseed originates in North America and has also been introduced to Europe. It has a deep, laterally flattened body with colourful spots and a red border on the dark gill-cover flap.
It selects still, vegetated waters. It feeds among plants and near the bottom, seeking small aquatic animals. The male makes a nest depression and guards eggs and initially the young. Juveniles often also have dark vertical bands that later become less distinct.
