The marbled snake eel has a very long, snake-like body covered in dark spots that merge into marbling in places. It occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific on sand, mud and fine gravel.
Most of its body may remain buried with the head projecting. It is a bottom-associated predatory fish. Its lifestyle means observers more often see just the snout than the animal’s full length.
