Atlantic cod — size comparison — facts and sources

The Atlantic cod lives in cold North Atlantic waters, with populations also in the Baltic. Three dorsal fins, two anal fins and one chin barbel are readily visible features.

It seeks invertebrates and fish, using both water above the bottom and the bottom zone itself. Diet changes with size and local prey availability. Young cod may also be eaten, as the species practises cannibalism.
