Tibetan Terrier — size comparison — facts and sources

The Tibetan Terrier is a sturdy, medium-sized dog with an abundant coat and an almost square outline. Long hair also covers its head, ears and tail, which curls over its back. Broad, heavily feathered feet are a particular feature. Its overall appearance is shaggy and soft, yet it moves efficiently and keeps its balance on uneven ground.

It comes from Tibet, where it accompanied people in homes, on farms and while travelling through mountain country. It is not related to the European terriers bred to flush animals from burrows. That name was given outside its homeland because of a similarity in size and general appearance. Its history is primarily connected with the everyday lives of local communities rather than typical earth-dog work.

It is lively, sensitive and strongly attached to its family. It enjoys joining household activities, watches people and quickly notices departures from familiar routines. It often remains reserved with strangers, although it can become very friendly as it gets to know them. It readily cooperates with its owner but can also stubbornly pursue a game of its own choosing.
