The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Tamaskan is a large, athletic dog with a wolf-like appearance. It has erect ears, an elongated muzzle and a dense coat in shades of grey or red, often with darker hair tips. Long legs and free movement emphasise its northern type. Its tail is richly feathered and should remain straighter than the tightly curled tails of many spitz dogs.
It is a modern breeding project developed through its own registries. The goal was a capable companion and working dog with a distinctly wolf-like appearance. Individual registries set selection and breeding-admission rules, so particular lines' histories matter when describing the population. The Tamaskan is not an old, uniform breed originating in one local community.
The breeding standard emphasises activity, intelligence and friendliness towards people. Dogs may initially be reserved, making contact more readily after getting to know someone. Some show marked independence and their own ideas for action. The particular line matters in temperament assessment because the population is still developing. Sociability described as a breeding aim does not determine identical behaviour in all Tamaskans.
