Standard Longhaired Dachshund — size comparison — facts and sources
The Standard Longhaired Dachshund is the largest of the three longhaired Dachshund size varieties. It has an elongated body, strong short legs and a long head with drooping ears. Soft, close-fitting hair forms fringes on the ears, underside and backs of the legs. Its tail is the most richly feathered part, emphasising the dog's elongated outline in motion.
Dachshund history is linked to German hounds selected for work in burrows. Low-set dogs could follow game underground but also flushed animals and tracked wounded game above ground. The Deutsche Teckelklub, the oldest breed club, was founded in 1888. Today Dachshunds comprise nine varieties combining three sizes and three coat types.
The Longhaired Dachshund is curious, courageous and persistent. Scenting engages it so strongly that it may devote considerable attention to one trail. It bonds with household members and readily seeks their company while retaining initiative. It enjoys play and can firmly demand attention. It can also be watchful, quickly noticing and announcing new sounds or unfamiliar people.
