Spotted wolf spider — size comparison — facts and sources

Pardosa amentata is a small member of the wolf spider family. It occurs in damp places, on meadows, near water and in gardens. Its brown body pattern helps it disappear against soil and plant debris.

It does not build a capture web, instead moving over the ground while looking for small invertebrates. The spider walks or runs towards its prey, then seizes it with its legs and chelicerae.

The female carries an egg sac attached to her spinnerets. After hatching, the young climb onto her abdomen and travel with her for a time.
