Steatoda bipunctata occurs in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It can be found in buildings, beside windows, beneath bark and among stones. Its glossy brown abdomen bears delicate pale markings whose prominence varies between individuals.
Its three-dimensional web includes a canopy-like upper section and threads leading downwards. Sticky ends can adhere to passing invertebrates. Thread tension helps lift prey and restrict its movement before the spider approaches more closely.
During courtship the male transmits signals involving vibrations and stridulation. The female places a white egg sac near the web, using the same sheltered space in which she hunts.
