Trochosa terricola is one of the more sturdily built wolf spiders. It inhabits various open habitats and woodland edges. During the day it often remains beneath a stone, in litter or in another sheltered retreat.
It emerges to seek prey mainly at night. It hunts without a capture web, searching for small invertebrates among plant remains.
The female carries an egg sac and, after hatching, carries the young on her abdomen. Several European Trochosa species look very similar. Colour and general shape alone are therefore insufficient for reliable identification; specialists also compare fine anatomical structures.
