Common fox spider — size comparison — facts and sources

Alopecosa pulverulenta is a wolf spider associated with grassy open areas, among other habitats. A pale stripe on the cephalothorax and a darker abdominal mark break up its brown body outline. Males and females differ in size and pattern definition.

The spider catches prey without spinning a capture web. It moves among low plants, pauses and responds to moving invertebrates.

During breeding the female prepares an egg sac and carries it beside her spinnerets. After hatching, the young use her abdomen as a shared resting place. Care ends when they disperse and begin independent lives among plants and on the soil surface.
