Cricket-bat orbweaver — size comparison — facts and sources

Mangora acalypha is a small orbweaver that builds webs low among grasses and herbaceous plants. It occurs in grasslands, fields and other places with suitable low vegetation.

Its circular web catches small flying insects. Stems act as supports, holding the trap above the ground. The spider responds to thread vibrations, and its tiny outline easily disappears against interlacing grass blades.

The female is larger than the male, and her rounded abdomen is particularly noticeable among plants. Pale, yellowish and orange abdominal areas may look different in young individuals.
