Slovakian Hound — size comparison — facts and sources
The Slovakian Hound, or Slovenský Kopov, is a small, strong black-and-tan dog with hanging ears and a slightly elongated body. Compactness and agility rather than size are characteristic. Short hair reveals muscles, and its legs allow free movement through scrub and on wooded slopes.
It developed within Slovakia’s hunting tradition. Boar hunting particularly required a resilient dog with strong woodland orientation and endurance. Working abilities guided selection. The Kopov independently located game and reported its progress by voice, often beyond its handler’s sight.
Lively, bold and determined, it has good orientation and can remain absorbed in an interesting scent for a long time. It chooses routes and continues without immediate guidance. Strong hunting excitement may make surrounding stimuli less important than the trail.
