Slovak Cuvac — size comparison

The Slovak Cuvac is a large, powerful dog with dense white hair and dark eyes. Males have longer neck hair forming a full mane. It has a strong head, drooping ears and a bushy tail. A broad body and powerful legs give it an imposing appearance, while movement remains free and suited to mountain terrain.

It descends from flock guardians of the Slovak Carpathians. These dogs helped protect livestock and farms, and their name refers to watching and listening. Professor Anton Hrůza played an important role in organising modern breeding by gathering dogs from local populations and keeping records.

The Cuvac usually becomes strongly attached to its family and familiar surroundings. It can be reserved with strangers, carefully assessing a new situation before making contact. It is bold and inclined to independent decisions. In quiet surroundings it often stays composed while quickly noticing approaching people or animals.
