Sloughi — size comparison

The Sloughi is a sighthound with long legs, short hair and a pronounced abdominal tuck. A thin coat reveals a slender but strong build. Ears hang beside the head, and the long tail is carried low with a slightly curved tip. Sandy and fawn coats, sometimes brindled or dark-masked, suit its homeland’s harsh landscapes.

It has accompanied North African peoples for centuries, especially in the Maghreb. Hunting used keen sight, speed and pursuit over extensive ground. Morocco remains an important stronghold and is responsible for its standard.

It can be very affectionate with familiar people without expressing this exuberantly. It usually treats strangers with reserve and chooses when to approach. Quiet companionship can change immediately into pursuit at the sight of a fleeing animal. Independence involves rapid decisions, while sensitivity appears in close attention to human behaviour.
