The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Silken Windhound is a medium-sized sighthound with a long head, slender legs and soft, silky hair. Longer hair forms fringes on legs and tail, emphasising free movement. It has a deep chest and clearly tucked-up belly. Colouring varies widely, and its light build suits fast running.
Francie Stull developed it in Texas, seeking a smaller long-haired sighthound for her kennel. The programme used Borzois, Whippets and a multigenerational line of small sighthound crosses. The first litter was born in 1985, and the name Silken Windhound was adopted in 1998. The International Silken Windhound Society subsequently organised breeding through registration and ancestry records.
It is usually gentle and affectionate with familiar people. It readily rests nearby but can quickly switch into lively play. Moving objects may instantly attract its gaze and prompt chasing. In human contact it often shows learning ability and willingness to cooperate.
