Shiloh Shepherd — size comparison — facts and sources

The Shiloh Shepherd is a large shepherd-type dog with strong bone, erect ears and a deep chest. It has two coat varieties: shorter and close-fitting or longer and plush. Long-haired dogs have particularly full neck ruffs and clear fringes on legs and tail. Colours may be solid, bicolour or wolf-sable.

It developed in the United States from dogs related to the German Shepherd. Breeders sought a large, balanced family companion. Separate organisations and registries eventually arose, maintaining the population under their own rules. It therefore retains a German Shepherd connection, but the two names do not describe the same breed.

Club accounts repeatedly mention learning ability, vigilance and calm human contact. It should readily attend to its owner and undertake shared activities. It may carefully observe environmental changes. Breeding emphasis on composure describes desired temperament; behaviour still varies between lines and individuals.
