Saint Bernard × Rough Collie (crossbreed) — size comparison — facts and sources

Saint Collie is a name for a Saint Bernard and Rough Collie cross. Offspring may have the Saint Bernard's powerful body, a longer muzzle and the Collie's lighter build, but proportions vary widely. The coat is usually abundant, with longer hair on the neck and tail. Colour and head shape depend on inherited parental traits.

The name joins two distant histories: Alpine hospice dogs and British sheepdogs. Saint Bernards accompanied people on mountain routes, while Collies helped drive livestock. Saint Collies have no comparably documented history of one closed population. The term describes crossbred ancestry rather than a separate variety of either parent breed.

Such dogs may show calmer Saint Bernard behaviour alongside quick Collie reactions and sensitivity. Interest in people need not mean equal energy levels or similar responses to strangers. Even siblings may differ in play and reactions to movement. Temperament does not result from simply averaging both parents' traits.
