Great Plains toad — size comparison — facts and sources

The Great Plains toad occurs in central North America. Large, paired dark blotches with pale borders cover its warty skin. It inhabits prairies and uses underground shelters in dry periods.

It may remain buried by day, reducing water loss. When hunting it often waits for passing prey. It eats beetles, ants, flies, insect larvae and spiders, among other food. Rain prompts breeding in temporary pools.
