Smooth-faced Pyrenean Sheepdog — size comparison — facts and sources
The smooth-faced Pyrenean Sheepdog has short facial hair, clearly revealing its expression and elongated muzzle. Body hair remains longer and may form fringes on the tail and backs of the legs. Compared with its longhaired relative, it is squarer and usually appears longer-legged.
It was particularly associated with the Pyrenean foothills. Cattle handlers and horse traders valued it as an agile helper for moving animals. Breeding records recognised differences from other Pyrenean sheepdogs during the nineteen-twenties. Today it has a separate standard from the breed with long and semi-long coats.
Energetic and attentive to its handler, it often grasps new tasks quickly. It readily runs, changes direction and responds to human signals. Initiative helps adapt its actions to livestock movement. It may be cautious with strangers but relaxed and lively with familiar people.
