The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Presa Canario is large and muscular, with a broad head and somewhat elongated body. Its short coat may be fawn or brindle, usually with a dark mask. Strong legs and a deep chest accompany a heavy but free stride. It conveys considerable strength while retaining agility for livestock work.
It comes from Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Development combined local Majorero dogs with molossers brought to the Canary Islands. Presa-type dogs guarded farms and worked cattle, including holding difficult animals. The modern type developed from a regional working population, retaining a name connected to the islands and its former task.
It is usually composed and highly attentive. It may be obedient and closely attached to familiar people while observing strangers from a distance. Sudden posture changes and focus on one stimulus can indicate arousal. Its bark is deep, but it need not make continual noise to express its presence.
