Eurasian siskin — size comparison — facts and sources
The Eurasian siskin is a small, active finch with a slender bill and a forked tail. An adult male has a distinctive black cap and a small black patch below the bill.
It gathers small seeds and moves nimbly among slender twigs. It often feeds in groups and also visits feeders in winter. Compared with the greenfinch, it is smaller and has a finer bill.
It nests high in a conifer. Some populations move seasonally, and winter flocks may contain birds from distant areas. Females are more subdued in colour and lack such a distinct black cap.
