The European greenfinch is a stocky finch with a strong, conical bill. The male has olive-green plumage and conspicuous bright yellow on its wings and tail. Females have more subdued, brownish colours.
It lives in gardens, parks and woodland margins. Its powerful bill handles seeds, so it often appears at feeders. Its song combines twittering with distinctive drawn-out sounds.
